Isn't that how the song by The Proclaimers goes? Ha ha, not quite, but we did drive 500 miles today - we were definitely rolling! Oh Roberto, you have been good to us! We started near Joliet, Illinois, then passed through Indiana, then Michigan. Today's run didn't involve any stops at neat attractions, scenic waterways or striking natural landforms. Our most exciting stop was at the duty free shop!
One thing I noticed today while driving in the States was the start of seeing fall colours, especially the reds. Such a beautiful time of year! As we got closer to Canada, I started wondering about what our run down the 401 will look like!
Sidenote: Dave and I have remarked about the amazing weather we have experienced throughout our rv adventure. Anne and Russell, who were with us in Utah, had to spend last night in Idaho on their way home to Lethbridge due to a huge snowstorm. There were 70 slide offs in a 35 mile stretch of the interstate they were on! They, along with more than 200 semis and over 300 vehicles, were at a standstill in the town of Dubois - that has one gas station, one café, and a post office. In the end, they were able to return to Idaho Falls and get a hotel room. Crazy! They are now close to being home (they should be home by the time anyone reads this I believe) - and I hope they get a break from the snow! Remember, Lethbridge already got a dumping a couple of weeks ago! Lauren is also home safe and sound in Australia!
We have returned to Canadian soil via Sarnia and are spending the night in southwestern Ontario. We had hoped to be further along than we are, but there was a great deal of gridlock, so we got off the 401 and found another Chateau Walmart to call home. Fingers crossed, we will be able to have breakfast in Brampton with John, as his shift ends in the early morning.
We did notice some gorgeous fall colours on our 402 and 401 travels this afternoon and evening! Looking forward to tomorrow's drive home!
Until then,
Carolyn, the thankful Canadian
